Castor Fiber – the Eurasian beaver
Castor Fiber is the scientific name of our beaver in Switzerland. The nocturnal rodent is the only animal that actively creates its habitat. The beaver cuts down trees, builds dams and creates with that not only its own habitat but also makes room for aquatic plants and herbs to grow.
You can recognise a beaver best by its flat and scaled tail. If you want to observe a beaver, you should position yourself at a riverbank with beaver tracks either at dawn or at twilight. We also offer you exciting tours for that!
Unfortunately, the beaver is now classified as a vulnerable species and is supported by many animal welfarists. This is how you too can protect the beaver!
